Starmart JB has started selling 2011 Chinese New Year Ticket

Dear Customer,

Another GREAT ANNOUNCEMENT! Startmart JB Express has started selling 2011 Chinese New Year Ticket. For those who wish to go back for their Chinese New Year, please grab the ticket fast to avoid dissapointment. You can go to www.busonlineticket.com and purchase your ticket.

This information is extrated from Wikipedia.

Chinese New Year, Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It is often inaccurately called "Lunar New Year", because - as part of the lunisolar Chinese calendar - the date is partially determined based on lunar phase. The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin: zhēng yuè) in the Chinese calendar and ends with Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day. Chinese New Year's Eve, a day where Chinese families gather for their annual reunion dinner, is known as chú xī (除夕). It literally means "Year-pass Eve".

Chinese New Year is the longest and most important festivity in the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The origin of Chinese New Year is itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Ancient Chinese New Year is a reflection on how the people behaved and what they believed in the most.

Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with significant Chinese populations, such as Mainland China, Hong Kong,[2] Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore,[3] Taiwan, Vietnam, and also in Chinatowns elsewhere. Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors, as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction. These include Koreans (Seollal), Tibetans and Bhutanese (Losar), Mongolians (Tsagaan Sar), Vietnamese (Tết), and the Japanese before 1873 (Oshogatsu).

In countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States, although Chinese New Year is not an official holiday, many ethnic Chinese hold large celebrations and Australia Post, Canada Post, and the US Postal Service issue New Year's themed stamps.

Within China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese new year vary widely. People will pour out their money to buy presents, decoration, material, food, and clothing. It is also the tradition that every family thoroughly cleans the house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red colour paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of "happiness", "wealth", and "longevity". On the Eve of Chinese New Year, supper is a feast with families. Food will include such items as pigs, ducks, chicken and sweet delicacies. The family will end the night with firecrackers. Early the next morning, children will greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year, and receive money in red paper envelopes. The Chinese New Year tradition is a great way to reconcile; forgetting all grudges, and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone.

Price hike for RON95, LPG

Dear Customer,

Today Malaysia government announce RON95 petrol price will increase from current RM1.85/liter to RM1.90/liter (that is ~2.7% increase). I think this hike will certainly affect many household especially those low income and middle income family who have cars. To those who drives often, especially driving back to their hometown, driving car for holiday, will certainly feel the pinch.

What's the best solution? How can you cut down your travelling cost? The BEST way is to TAKE EXPRESS BUS back. So far, the coach ticket has not increased for at least 2 to 3 years. Unless the government has decided to increase the price of diesel, there is no reason for express bus companies to increase their coach ticket price.

So, taking bus back is actually helping you to save cost. What else for you to consider again? Buy your ticket @ http://www.busonlineticket.com/

Below is the article extracted from http://www.thestar.com.my/

PUTRAJAYA: The prices for RON95 petrol and diesel will increase by 5sen per litre at midnight (12.01am Dec 4) while the prices of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and sugar will be up by 5sen and 20sen per kg respectively.

RON95 would be raised to RM1.90 per litre from the current RM1.85 while price of diesel would be retailed at RM1.80 per litre. LPG and sugar will cost RM1.90 and RM2.10 per kg respectively.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala Idris said the price hike was the second wave of the subsidy rationalisation programme.

Prices of RON95 and diesel went up by 5sen per litre while sugar and LPG were raised by 25sen and RM10 on July 16 for the first wave of the programme.

That resulted in total savings of RM779mil. This time around, Idris said the savings is expected to be RM1.18bil.

Idris said the savings would be channelled towards improving urban transportation network, rural basic infrastructure and roads, education and efforts to combat crime.
He added that the increase was very minimal and should not hurt the people.
“I think it is fair to the rakyat. I believe people will be able to accept it,” he told a media briefing on the second wave of subsidy rationalisation here Friday.
Idris said the Consumer Price Index could be contained in view of the low increase and declined to disclose the amount of subsidy the government would have to pay for the items.

Online booking the bus ticket or buying on the spot ??

Dear Customer,

We received this enquiries on whether to buy ticket ONLINE or buying ticket on the spot. This is how we reply to our customer.

'You can either buy ticket online or at the counter, but online gives you the convenient of having able to secure the seats early. Buying on the spot... will have the risk of sold out when you reach there or the timing is not suitable. Buying online will also help you to save the transportation cost of going to the counter and buy the ticket twice. We hope you like this convenience. We look forward to your booking from our website. =)'

If we can help you to save time, money and bring you the convenience, will you hesitate again to buy ticket ONLINE? I think anyone can make a good judgment.

Express buses barred from entering Thailand, affecting local operators

This information is taken from Channelnewsasia.com.

SINGAPORE : Some long distance bus operators in Singapore have had their buses barred from entering Southern Thailand.

As a result, some of these companies are losing hundreds of dollars daily.

Bus operators like Tan Boon Huat now have to call Hat Yai daily to ensure his bus is allowed to pass through the borders.

Roads were opened to local bus operators on Wednesday.

Reports said Malaysian registered coaches were barred from entering Southern Thailand for three days as the Thais were unhappy about Malaysian allegations that Thais on tourist visas were working in Malaysia.

About a dozen buses to Hat Yai leave Golden Mile Complex between 6pm and 7pm each day. Each bus can accommodate 26 passengers, which include Singaporeans, Thai workers and backpackers.

Tan Boon Huat, managing director, Grassland Express and Tours, said: "The buses that operate between Singapore and Hat Yai are Malaysian registered. We can only send our passengers up to Hat Yai's immigration border because they've closed the roads to these buses.

"We then have to engage Thai buses to send our customers to the city. This is causing us to lose more than S$200 a day."

First event at Marina Bay Sands to take place just days after opening

SINGAPORE : Singapore's second Integrated resort, Marina Bay Sands is set to host guests taking part in a multi-million dollar conference in less than two weeks.

It is the very first event taking place there. But with some parts of the resort still being under construction, organisers of the event have raised some concerns.

About 1,000 delegates are expected to attend the Inter-Pacific Bar Association 20th Annual Conference that will begin on April 30.

The conference will seek to address climate change and legal practice. The former US vice-president Al Gore and Singapore's Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew will be among the distinguished speakers.

Organisers said they had decided to host guests at Marina Bay Sands to offer a different and unique experience to them.

Plans were firmed up more than a year ago and organisers were told that the integrated resort will open by September last year or latest, by the start of this year.

The integrated resort is opening in phases, starting on April 27.

And as it's just days before the conference kicks off, the conference organisers have raised concerns about the delegates' experience.

"Our comfort when we originally signed with MBS (Marina Bay Sands) was that they will give us a full five months at the least for the run-in to take place. Right now it has been reduced to a matter of days. And this is of course a very delicate management issue - to make sure that whatever training and staff experience that they have, will be impacting our guests," said Yap Wai Ming, chairman of Organising Committee, IPBA 2010 Singapore.

"There are a lot of things that are not complete but as the day progresses, they have actually put in three shifts - it's a 24-hour schedule that they are putting in. So far, I think they are able to show us some of the progress that they have made. But of course, it is nothing compared to the real thing," he added.

Still, organisers are not leaving anything to chance and they are monitoring developments closely.

"We have been given site visits... We have seen the actual rooms. They look quite fantastic... a class of its own by Singapore standards. (As for) the convention hall, at this point in time, they are still making the finishing touches relating to the decoration. I think it should come up reasonably well," said Yap.

"We are constantly in touch with the management. They told us most of the things are done properly and they have contingency plans in place, in case certain parts are not ready. They have actually given us all those assurances. So fingers crossed, it should turn out as a fantastic conference as they have promised us," he added.

Organisers said another site visit is being scheduled some time this week.

Yap said Marina Bay Sands has also promised that all construction activities near the hotel and conference hall will stop completely during the course of the conference.

Responding to media queries, Marina Bay Sands said its staff are going through extensive simulation exercises to put them through the paces.

It said it is also working closely with the IPBA's organising committee to ensure a smooth and memorable stay for all delegates and VIPs. - CNA /ls

Coach tickets to Malaysia for Lunar New Year period fast selling out

Have you bought your Chinese New Year Ticket? Bus tickets are selling fast. Below article is extracted from Channelnewsasia.com

SINGAPORE: The Lunar New Year may be more than a month away but already, coach tickets to Malaysia for that period are selling fast.

Operators said tickets on certain days, like just before the Lunar New Year, are almost fully sold out.

This is good news for an industry that has been battered by the opening of the Malaysia-Singapore air route to low cost carriers.

It's boom time for operators of bus services to Malaysian towns. They said tickets for trips during the week of the Lunar New Year are moving very fast with some customers making bookings as early as November last year.

This is despite the fact that prices have almost doubled.

Tan Boo Huat, manager, Grassland Express, said: "We started selling tickets in November and it was sold out within a short time. A lot of people are worried they won't be back in time for the Lunar New Year."

Ken Lim, managing director, Five Stars Tours, said: "We're almost sold out, about 90 per cent. The only seats left are to places that are not as popular or further. We are adding more buses so there may be more seats available."

Still, the brisk business now belies the fact that many customers are dumping buses for airplanes.

Operators said they've seen a 30 per cent dip in business since low cost carriers were allowed to fly the Singapore-Malaysia route in February 2008.

Sebastian Yip, committee member, Express Bus Agencies Association, said: "From Johore to KL, I think the business is not much affected. It's beyond KL, like
Ipoh and Penang - these are the places we expect are more severe."

So some coach operators have cut prices to as low as nine dollars to Kuala Lumpur to stay ahead.

Mr Tan added: "We have to change our operating model. So in the low season, we have to cut prices and during the peak season, if passengers are willing to pay more, we'll have to charge more."

Besides price, operators are focusing their efforts on raising the level of service and bringing passengers to places not yet served by budget carriers. - CNA/vm
